Engine manufacturers, especially heavy-duty diesel engines, are often unable to adopt the most advanced technologies due to production constraints; however, parts and components specialists can produce new engine parts and maintenance parts for several engines and automobile manufacturers. Multiplied, often the most modern process can be used. In this way, their products can be of high quality and low prices; specialized plants also need to have research institutions and facilities to continuously improve their products and processes. Based on the above points of view, the author of this article discusses the issue of specialization in the production of engines, and also describes the role of casting and forging and stamping factories and processing plants in the manufacture of engines. Finally, it proposes a series of engine standardization issues.
