One of the students has an important question. He wants to know how to improve his listening. He wants to know what the best way is.

Our teacher says， “Good listening skills are very important for communication2. If you don’t know what people are saying， it will be difficult for you to speak with them. There are a lot of materials on the Internet for students of English. Some students may have a problem with finding the right listening materials for them. Let’s have a look at what you should listen to.
我们老师说：“良好的听力技巧对于沟通非常重要。如果你不知道别人在说什么，你很难与他们交谈。互联网上有很多针对英语学生的资料。有些学生可能在寻找适合他们的听力材料时遇到问题。让我们来看看你应该听些什么。
There are two kinds of materials which you can listen to. You can listen to some audio or watch a film. These are quite different materials and there are also different rules to use them.
你可以听两种类型的材料。你可以听音频，也可以看电影。这些材料完全不同，使用的方法也不同。
When you listen to some audio3， you should know 95% of the words or more. If the audio has a lot of new words， read the text first if possible4 and make sure you know all of them.
收听某些音频时，你应该听懂其中95%或更多的单词。如果音频中包含很多新单词，请尽可能先阅读文本，并确保你认识所有单词。
When you practise listening， you also practise getting information5 from a spoken language. Don’t try to learn new words. Of course， sometimes you can learn new words， but it is not what you want. When you listen， try your best to get information from spoken English.
练习听力时，要练习从口语中获取信息，不会试着学习新单词。当然，有时你可以学习新单词，但这不是主要目标。在聆听时，请尽量从口语中获取信息。
It is important to use materials at your level6 of English.

When you have such a book with the audio recording7， read the book first. And then listen to the recording at home or when you travel. You can also visit some websites8 with recording if you like listening to the news.

The second type of materials for listening practice is films and videos9. These are also great. You can start using them when you know 2，000 words in English or more.

This is what you should do with a film. Watch it for the first time with subtitles10 so that you can know what the film is about. Then watch the film without subtitles. If you like the film very much， you can watch it more than once. When you watch one film many times， with every view， you will learn more.
这就是看电影的正确方式。第一次观看带有字幕的影片，这样你可以了解电影的内容。然后，观看没有字幕的电影。如果你非常喜欢这部电影，则可以多次观看。当你多次观看一部电影时，每一次重看你都会学到新东西。
You should listen more than 30 minutes a day. The more you listen， the faster you will know more words.

When listening， you should always look at what you already know， even if it is just 10% at the beginning. It is very easy to demotivate11 yourself by what you don’t know yet. Look at what you already know. Be happy for every new sentence you have known.
