On April 27-28, 2017, an international symposium on silver in history in China, jointly organized by the Macau Foundation and the China-Foreign Relations History Society, was held in Macao. Wu Zhiliang, chairman of the Macao Foundation Administrative Committee, and Geng, a researcher at the Institute of History and Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, delivered speeches respectively. Wu Zhiliang said that as the largest distribution center of silver in the early years of Macao, Macao had a direct impact on the process of China’s modernization. An in-depth study of the silver issue could provide academic support to the global economy at the crossroads and the ongoing “Belt and Road” strategy.
