The Cowardly Landlord
In a small village lived a landlord. One day he went to the town. There were two ways extended to the town, but the landlord chose the long one. His son who companied him asked, “Father, why don’t you choose the short way?” “I fell down yesterday when I was walking on that road.” “But a little stone hurt your tooth when you ate some rice at supper yesterday, and today you ate some rice again,” said his son.

村子里住着一个地主。一天，他到镇上去。有两条路通到镇上，可地主选了远的那条。陪他一起去的儿子问道：“父亲，您为什么不选近路呢？”“昨天我在那条路上走路时跌倒了。”“可是昨天晚饭您吃米饭时一个小石头硌了牙，今天您又吃米饭了。”他儿子说。
Good Advice
J.W. Georthe was a great German writer. One morning, his cook stole a big fish from the kitchen and hurried out. But just then Georthe came in from outside and saw the tail of the fish under his coat.
“Wait a moment,” said the great man. “Next time if you are doing the same thing, better put on a longer coat or choose a smaller fish.”

J.W.歌德是德国一位伟大的作家。一天上午，他的厨师从厨房里偷了一条大鱼，急忙走了出去。这时歌德正好从外面进来，看见了他外衣下面的鱼尾巴。
“等一下，”这位伟人说，“假如你下次做同类的事，最好穿长一点的外衣或者选择小一点的鱼。”
