Objective: To prepare a living cataract animal model for cataract phacoemulsification training. Methods: The dogs underwent general anesthesia with a beveled acupuncture to break the anterior lens capsule of the left eye to prepare a cataract model. After the formation of cataracts, phacoemulsification was performed. Results: The ophthalmic examination showed that the cortical opacity of the posterior part of the lens started 5 ~ 7 days after puncture and all cataract was formed 75 days after the operation. Phacoemulsification was performed on all cataractous eyes and the intraocular lens was implanted. All the dogs Have restored vision. CONCLUSION: Considering the huge loss incurred by inexperienced ophthalmologists in the initial stages of cataract phacoemulsification, we consider this live animal model significantly superior to the cadaver eyes currently used to train phacoemulsification.
