尿道下裂一词来自希腊语,意思是阴茎向腹侧弯曲。本症是前尿道发育不全,故尿道口位于正常尿道口近侧至会阴部的途径上,而阴茎腹侧皮肤缺少,系带缺如,背侧包皮堆积如帽状。北京妇产医院婴儿室1988年3000男婴中有6例,黄婉芬等对6周龄以内小儿普查,在2257例男婴中发现7例(3/1000)。尿道下裂的异位尿道口越靠近侧,其伴发畸形也越多,最常见的是隐睾症及腹股沟斜疝。北京儿童医院200例尿道下裂患儿中有隐睾症11例(5.5%),腹股沟斜疝10例(5.0%)。重度尿道下裂合并前列腺囊肿者可高达10%～15%。当尿道下裂合并双侧隐睾时要注意鉴别有无性别异常。
