Since the mid-1990s, the officialdom novels have achieved good results and gained recognition from the critics. To some extent, they have revealed and criticized the serious social problems of officialdom corruption and played a key role in tackling the current problems. However, In the context of popular consumption culture, the official novels also reveal the ambiguous aspects of migration, the commercialized tendency in their creation and the kitsch narrative techniques, the moral writing of “honest government officials” and the “rule of man” phenomenon Excessive prominence and many other limitations, then to a large extent, restrict or even weaken the novel’s inherent ideological connotation and criticism. Therefore, the creation of official novels needs further reflection on the value orientation.
