新课程强调:“要重视学生在阅读过程中的主体地位。必须强调学生阅读的自主性和独立性,文本的意义是学生在阅读过程中自行发现、自行建构起来的,要让学生自己阅读、自己学会阅读。”(见《语文课程标准解读》第55页)“阅读是学生的个性化行为,不应以教师的分析来代替学生的阅读实践”(见《语文课程标准》第17页)。这种理念是针对传统阅读教学的弊病而提出的。以往的阅读教学,学生不是主动获取意义,而是被动接受老师或者教材编撰者对课文的分析和理解,学生进行的不是自己的阅读,是重复、模仿他人的阅读,学生失去了阅读的独立性和自主性。这种阅读现状不利于学生学会阅读方法,不利于阅读能力的培养。
