Objective: To investigate the value of quantitative tissue velocity imaging and Tei index in assessing cardiac function in patients with dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM). Methods: The myocardial Doppler velocities and displacement curves of the left ventricular segments in 33 patients with DCM and 40 normal individuals were obtained by quantitative tissue velocity imaging. Peak systolic velocity (Vs) and systolic velocity Apical direction displacement (Ds); using the Doppler echocardiography to measure the left and right ventricular Doppler time interval above, to obtain left and right ventricular Tei index. Results: The Vs and Ds in left ventricular segments of patients with DCM were significantly lower than those in normal controls. The Tei index of left and right ventricles of patients with DCM was significantly higher than that of normal controls. Conclusion: The combination of quantitative tissue velocity imaging and Tei index can comprehensively evaluate the cardiac systolic and diastolic function in DCM patients. The method is simple, intuitive, repeatable and noninvasive.
