Objective To analyze the relationship between primary smoking behavior and daily life events among middle school students in Wuhan and the effect of stress on the initial smoking among adolescents. Methods A stratified cluster random sampling method was used to survey 6994 junior high school students in 22 schools in urban and suburban areas in Wuhan. A total of 5536 students who reported to have smoked and never smoked in the past year were selected as the present Sub-analysis of the object. Results The prevalence of smoking among middle school students in Wuhan during the year prior to the survey was 8.2%. There was a higher prevalence of smoking in boys than girls in the first year and a slight decrease in grade two students in the second year. The results of multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that the first-time smoking behaviors of adolescents in Wuhan were positively correlated with negative life events of family and school (P <0.05), but positively correlated with the positive of school Life events were negatively correlated (P <0.05). Conclusions The first-time smoking behavior among young students is closely related to stressful life events, especially those in school and family.
