This article describes a superconducting magnet for a 15.3 GHz (Ku-band) traveling-wave quantum amplifier that provides a uniform magnetic field above 8000 gauss over a 1.14 cm gap. Magnets work in a permanent manner in a closed-loop refrigerator (4.5K) in a vacuum environment. This article also describes the performance of a superconducting switch whose two leads are connected to a 4.5K cold head so that the switch does not receive the heat generated by the magnet wire.
