在20世纪西方美术史上,“风格派”的代表、荷兰籍艺术家蒙德里安是位独树一帜的人物。他的影响不仅仅局限于抽象绘画领域,在平面设计、时装设计、建筑设计,甚至在我们现在使用的电脑软件图标设计上都能看出蒙德里安的影响。长期以来,国内学术界多关注蒙德里安的“几何抽象”绘画,其实,他在环境艺术理论上也有独到的建树,本文拟对此作初步的分析。蒙德里安一生著述甚丰,他多以随感的形式记录自己的点滴思考。尽管蒙德里安没有专门论及室内外环境艺术设计,但从相关文章中,可以较为清晰地看到,这位艺术家对环境艺术设计有其独到的认识。他认为:
In the history of western art in the 20th century, “style school” representative, Dutch artist Mondrian is a unique figure. His influence is not limited to the field of abstract painting.
