自20世纪80年代起,土耳其发生了诸多社会变革,导致本国文化发生了一次大转向。在这种历史背景下,其小说的发展表现出六大趋势:“个人主义的崛起”“重估奥斯曼历史”“身份的焦虑”“伊斯兰思想的回归”“女性的声音”和“艺术形式上的杂糅、实验、创新”。在这个看似启蒙、反叛的时代,隐藏着资本主义文化逻辑的独裁和四处侵蚀,加之现代土耳其人对奥斯曼文明、伊斯兰教两大文化遗产的继承和改造速度迟缓,最终,一种呼愁文化情绪应运而生——它肩负不起开创新世界、实现人之自由和精神升华的使命。
