The Central Academy of Fine Arts, formerly known as Beiping Art College, was established in 1918. In 1938, the Central Academy of Fine Arts was merged with Hangzhou Art College in Hunan Yuanling into a national art school. It moved west for nearly eight years and returned to Peking in 1946.
