在守永嘉时的山水诗中,谢灵运欣悦地表达了自己对佛学的理解和对人生归宿的趋向。不但欣赏自然景物鲜活亮丽的特质,而且体味其所蕴含的佛理神趣;以理节情,以理为依归,规范自己的生活与情感。第一次隐居始宁时,谢灵运的山水诗中的佛学义理侧重于缘起性空观,此时,谢灵运的山水诗中表现出景物空灵澄澈,以及诗人悟理之后宁静淡泊的心境。
