T cell immunoglobulin mucin molecule 3 (Tim3) is a type I membrane surface protein molecule belonging to the newly discovered family of T cell immunoglobulin mucin molecules. The Tim3 molecule is selectively expressed on differentiated Th1 cells but not on Th2 cells and serves as a new surface marker for distinguishing between Th1 and Th2 cells. Tim3 molecules play an important role in autoimmune and autoimmune diseases as well as in immune tolerance by interacting with Tim3 ligands expressed on CD4 + CD25 + regulatory T cells and / or antigen presenting cells to inhibit Th1 immune responses.
