２０００年元月２１日，日本最高法院再次驳回东史郎等人上诉。实质上东史郎问题涉及到 日本对二战的认识，涉及到日本是否敢于正视历史、敢于承认二战期间对亚洲和世界人民所犯下 的罪行，并以此求得世界人民谅解的问题。日本已是世界第二经济大国，正希望成为与经济地位 相符的政治大国，世界人民也希望日本能为世界和平与繁荣多做贡献。但是，如果日本一定要一 意孤行，执意选择隐瞒和歪曲历史、走恢复军国主义的道路，则必将被历史所唾弃。
On January 21, 2000, the Japanese Supreme Court again rejected the appeal of Shigeru Shiro et al. In essence, the issue of Japan’s Shihiro involves Japan’s understanding of World War II, whether Japan dared to face history squarely, and dared to admit the crimes committed by the people of Asia and the world during World War II and thus seek the understanding of the people all over the world. Japan is the second largest economic power in the world and is hoping to become a political power consistent with its economic status. The people of the world also hope that Japan will make more contributions to world peace and prosperity. However, if Japan insists on its own way and insists on concealing and distorting history, and on the road to restoration of militarism, it will certainly be cast aside by history.
