The texture and life of the city are woven from pieces of the city by its rich and complex interrelationships. Often these relationships are simply dichotomized, internal or external, built or unfinished, public or private. The use of such an analysis in urban design is a disregard of the interrelationships that lead to the physical orientation and fragmentation of urbanization. Through brief history illustrations, we can sort out some of the city theorists criticized the urban fabric is the entity of the phenomenon of fragmentation, and explore the relationship between cities in the “field ” concept.
