On June 28, 1928, Education Reformist, then a member of the Kuomintang government, proposed a motion by Jinghengyi to call for the abolition of the National Palace Museum and the auction of its collections. The proceeds will be used to build a large museum of modern significance in Nanjing. Upon its introduction, the bill immediately produced a great response and led to extensive discussions. This, to a certain extent, reflects the attitude and perception of some Chinese people towards the traditional Chinese culture at that time. Although more than 80 years have passed since this incident was carried out, exploring its deep-seated factors and its enlightenment can provide important reference for the study of modern museum theory and the protection of cultural heritage in our country.
