In the 1970s, students from the United States in Taiwan launched the Diaoyu Islands Campaign in North America. As the Taiwan authorities did not support it, the Diaoyu Islands movement gradually transformed into the reunification movement of China. In addition to the above reasons, the influence of the ideology of Marxism-Leninism on the part of Taiwanese students coming to the United States, the propaganda of returning overseas visitors, and the impact of the Mainland’s Cultural Revolution are all important factors in bringing about transformation. The forms and specific contents of the unification movement in China present different characteristics due to different regions and traditions, but they are nothing more than the holding of reading conferences and seminars, the screening of outstanding movie and drama performances in the motherland, and the service of overseas Chinese communities. At present, the reunification movement in China is still little known in academia. With the establishment of Beijing Library of Tsinghua University, “Diaoyu Data Collection Research Center”, the history of this period has been restored. This article is based on the center’s data to address the above issues .
