Apollo （阿波罗）was the son of Zeus（宙斯） who was the father of gods and human. He is called “sun-god”（太阳神）. During the day Apollo drove his carriage （车子）of gold and ivory （象牙）across the sky and spread light, life and love to the great world below. At dusk (黄昏)he finished his journey (旅行) in the far western sea(西海) and returned to his eastern home in his golden boat.

　　Apollo was the god of music and poetry（诗）. He could inspire (激发) all feelings expressed in hymns(圣歌、赞美诗). With his gold lyre (七弦琴) and his sweet voice he led the choir （合唱队）of the Muses.

　　The music from his lyre was so wonderful （美妙的）that stones marched （使行进）into their own places in rhythmic（节奏的） time when he helped Poseidon (波塞冬，希腊神话中的手持三叉矛的海神) build up the walls of Troy（特洛伊）.

　　According to Greek（希腊的） mythology（神话）, a beautiful girl named Clytie (克里提)was so fascinated(使着迷) at him that she knelt （跪下）on the ground from dawn（黎明） to dusk, staring at Apollo’s golden-wheeled carriage racing across the blue sky. Though Apollo didn’t give her a look, she never changed her love for Apollo. The gods were deeply touched and changed her into a sunflower（向日葵）.
