According to foreign reports, after World War II, Japan’s spinning equipment production capacity had rapidly increased from 2.06 million ingots after the war to 9.85 million in 1972, but the number of spindles has gradually declined since then. It is expected that this year will drop to 4 million ingots for the first time since 1950, becoming half of the peak level. The rapid growth of imports from overseas, mainly Asian countries, and the appreciation of the Japanese yen have weakened Japan’s export competitiveness, resulting in the loss of supply and demand balance in Japan’s domestic production and the reduction of production equipment. In terms of cotton products, imported products have reached 70-75% of domestic demand. This year, the Japanese cotton textile industry still faces many difficulties. As the economy is still sluggish, price competition has become fiercer; the appreciation of the yen has caused the export competitiveness to decline; import pressure has increased; and cotton prices have risen.
