Purpose: Dopamine (DA), one of the most important catecholamine neurotransmitters in the central nervous system (CNS), plays an important role in the regulation of many functions of the brain such as motor, cognition, emotion, sexual enhancement, ingestion and endocrine . DA is closely related to the pathogenesis of neuropsychiatric diseases such as Parkinson’s disease, schizophrenia, Tourette’s syndrome, drug addiction, learning and memory impairment, attention deficit hyperactivity syndrome. A large number of studies have shown that DA plays a very important role in the regulation of synaptic plasticity. In particular, when the DA five receptors were discovered, the researchers used different receptor agonists and blockers to study the function of DA, and more specifically described DA In highlighting the function of plasticity. This article reviews the distribution and role of DA and its receptors in the central nervous system and provides a scientific basis for future research.
