Wallace Stevens (1879-1955) is a representative of the modernist poets in the United States. Different from the decadent and barren poet who is good at describing the spiritual world of people after the First World War, his poems convey optimism and openness in contemplation . Stevens’s poetry has been influenced by the Chinese Zen thought. This article analyzes the reality and the characteristics of Zen Buddhism in his three poems, “Snowman”, “silence of the living room, peace in the world” and “not the concept but himself” Imagine the harmony between the things themselves and emptiness. This article first introduces the influence of Zen thought on Stevens; secondly, it analyzes the conflict and harmony in the three poems, and concludes that it is similar to the idea that Zen thought goes from things to nothing, color to air, birth to the world and accession to the WTO wonderful.
