Philippine Women’s University has developed a low-cost solar dryer for food processing. The device can process fruits, vegetables or seafood, the maximum processing capacity of 170-200 kg. According to the designer, this drier occupies a small footprint and can shorten the drying time to produce a product of better quality than that of a conventional dryer. It has an auxiliary oven between the solar collector and the main drying chamber. The stove’s fuel is crop waste, about 0.5-1 kilogram of fuel per hour. For example, drying 150 kilograms of bananas requires 7-8 kilograms of crop waste, which takes 26-28 hours. The shape of the dryer is trapezoidal. The frame is made of wood and aluminum alloy.
