顺德县位于西北江下游珠江三角洲上,是一片广阔冲积平原,地势平坦,既无大山也少丘陵。在全县面积120万亩中,只有四万余亩是山地面积。因此没有瀑布等自然跌水。但该县境内河涌众多,处处都有潮水灌溉。水的面积(鱼塘、河涌加上渠道的面积)几占全县面积50%左右。水是极为丰富的。加以每日都有两进两退的潮水,这就蕴藏着丰富的、大量的水力资源。虽然潮差(只有0.8公尺～1.5公尺)不大,如果能充分利用起来也是个不小的动力源泉。
