1996年3月13日阿勒泰发生6．1级地震，震中距阿勒泰市约67km，震源深度33km，震中烈度为Ⅷ度强。地震造成的各类建筑物破坏面积为400676m2，山区牧业设施、部分市政设施和水利设施遭到了破坏，死亡牲畜409头（只），直接经济损失达2961．12万元。
On March 13, 1996, a 6.1-magnitude earthquake struck Altay. The epicenter was about 67 km from Aletai City, with a focal depth of 33 km. The epicentral intensity was Ⅷ degree. The destroyed area of all kinds of buildings caused by the earthquake was 400676m2. The livestock husbandry facilities, some municipal facilities and water conservancy facilities in the mountains were damaged. There were 409 dead animals (only) and the direct economic loss was 29.6112 million yuan.
