语言是一个符号,是一个规则系统,只有通过了解不同的国家的历史、地理、气候、宗教、经济等,我们才能够用语言与其他人顺利地沟通。所以,我们使用的语言不可能从我们的文化中分离出来,可以说第二语言的学习是第二种文化的学习。因此,成功的外语教学不是简单的语言学科和应用,而应是通过语言的协助进行高层次的文化交流。这就要求我们要对教育和英语教学进行根本性的思考,也就是说,在英语的教学中,要将文化引入进来,如果语言被看作是一种社会实践,那么文化教学则应成为语言教学的核心。
