The Río Fardes section is located in the northeast of Granada, in southern Spain and is constructed in the Subbetic zone of deep-water conditions. This section is mainly composed of the second and third (semi) oceanic sediments of the Cretaceous Fardes Formation, and appears turbidite and mixed sediments. This study first found two red sediments in the turbidite sequence of the Fardes Formation. Calcareous fossils indicate that the red layer time is from early Turonian (UC7 zone) to Coniacian mid-late boundary line (UC10 / UC11 zone). The red layer consists of mm red mudstone with gray, mottled, occasionally black mudstone and calcareous mudstone. Sedimentology studies show that the newly discovered Turonian Coniacian oceanic red mudstone formed below the CCD surface in deep-water basin environments where turbidity and debris flow strongly influenced the background mudstone facies of the (semi) oceanic environment and became red-sedimentary the reason.
