美国学者威廉·舒尔茨的《郭沫若与浪漫主义美学:1918-1925》是1978年前英语世界研究郭沫若的学术期刊论文中较早的一篇。文中作者从“简介”、“传略”、“1918-1925年”、“观念的构成”与“诗学理论与实践”五个方面对郭沫若浪漫主义美学思想的发生、发展及在诗歌创作中的体现进行了翔实的阐发,文本涉及对《天狗》《创造者》《凤凰涅槃》《地球,我的母亲》《笔立山头展望》《立在地球边上放号》和《我是个偶像崇拜者》等七首诗的译介。作者认为,如果不从各个视角去考察去研究郭沫若整个的生活和创作,要对他真正的地位作出全面的评价都将是不成熟的。郭沫若在世时国内批评家和读者对他的赞誉在某种程度上是应得的。或许,更可能是他对时代和其他作家的影响比他自己的创作本身使他居于中国现代文学最杰出的作家之列。
The American scholar William Schultz’s “Guo Moruo and Romantic Aesthetics: 1918-1925” is an earlier one in Guo Moruo’s academic journals essay before 1978.
