南宋著名藏书家、诗人尤袤嗜书成癖,他广收博采,家中有丰富的藏书,并“汇而目之”编成《遂初堂书目》。友人陆游曾光临其藏书室写下《遂初堂诗》,盛赞其藏书之富:“异书名刻堆满屋,欠伸欲起遭书围。” 尤袤读书更是如饥似渴,每日公退便闭门谢客,躲进书房专心攻读。他曾谈自己的读书体会道:“饥读之以当肉;寒读之以当裘;孤寂读之以当友朋;幽忧读之以当金石琴瑟也。”(《遂初堂书目序》)这段话成为文人嗜书的格言。清人叶昌炽在《藏书纪事诗》中感叹此事,写下“饥当肉兮寒当裘,足消孤寂遣幽忧”的诗句。清末民初的藏书家章钰曾以此为座右铭,将自己的书斋名为“四当斋”。
The famous scholar and poet of the Southern Song Dynasty, especially the poet, became a hobbyist. His collection of books was extensive and his family had a rich collection of books. His friend Lu You went to his library to write the “Suizhongtangshu” and praised his collection of books for richness: “The book of different titles is filled with books at a moment’s notice.” Then closed the door Xie, hid in the study to concentrate on. He once talked about his own reading experience and said: “hunger to read when the meat; cold to read when the fur; solitude to read as a friend; ”) This passage became aphorism of literati books. Ching Man Ye Changchi in the “Book of Chronicle Poems,” lamented the matter, wrote “When the meat hungry when Qiu, foot full solitary silence seclusion” verse. Zhang Yu, a collector at the end of the Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Republic of China, took this motto as his name, and he named his name “Si Dang Zhai.”
