阿慧是回族女性作家,在其散文创作中体现出强烈的民族身份认同,这不仅表现在阿慧的散文作品中经常出现一些本民族的语言词汇形成了一套浓郁的民族语言特色的词汇系统,而且在阿慧的散文作品中有大量的对回族饮食、节庆风俗、婚丧嫁娶的描写,这些地域民俗的描写突出了阿慧家乡的地方特色,同时也以它诉说着回族人民顽强不屈的生存信念,标志着每一片土地独有的生存方式和文化形态。阿慧的散文作品中常常出现的是三种结构类型,一是线性结构,即按照时间的发展顺序,以开端—发展—高潮—结局的情节结构模式来进行叙述。二是串珠式结构,即作者以自己的所见所闻所感为主线,中间串联出一个一个独立的小单元。三是“一字立骨法”的结构技巧,这种方法是以一个能够体现文章主旨的关键语句作为文章的“眼目”统领全篇,串联材料。阿慧的散文语言动词使用新奇别致,常常能达到生动形象的动态效果,其散文语言中最常用的三种修辞方式是比喻、拈连和移用。
