In the 1950s, the Hong Kong economy began to shift from re-export trade to processing trade. After the development of the 1960s, in the 1970s, Hong Kong’s processing industry and foreign trade, transportation, construction, finance, tourism and other economic sectors had a very important position in the Far East and the world market. Looking at the growth in GDP, 1960 was HK$5.895 billion, with an average of HK$1,917 per person. In 1980, it reached HK$106 billion, with an average of HK$20,933 per person. In the past 20 years, they have increased by nearly 17 times and 10 times respectively. Hong Kong’s per capita GDP is now second only to Japan in Asia and slightly better to Singapore. Looking back at the development of foreign trade, Hong Kong’s import and export trade has ranked 16th in the world in 1980, exceeding 41 billion US dollars.
