This article explores McClelland’s three needs for achievement needs, noting that achievement needs can help companies increase productivity and increase innovation (measured by the number of patents passed each year). However, if leaders continue to emphasize accomplishing tasks and goals, Then, over time, high-achieving people will undermine the company’s performance. At the same time, over-focusing on achievements will also undermine the trust and ethics among the company’s employees, affecting the company’s productivity and its confidence in management. Given this potential destructiveness of high-achieving needs, this article provides some ways to confirm whether you or others have excess needs for success and how to control the destructive needs of overachievers.
