“The Language of the Fiction” and “The Art of the Fiction” are the two novel criticisms written by British critic David Lodge in different periods, which reflect the author’s different views on criticism. “The Language of the Novel” was first published in 1966. By arguing that the language of the novel is also the same as that of poetry, David Lodge built a novel criticism based mainly on new criticism. Some of the issues discussed are clear Paranoid and far-fetched attachments. Until the publication of “The Art of Fiction” in 1992, David Lodge’s criticism of novels has no longer rigidly adhered to the new criticism. Both his point of view and the method of criticizing the novel have obvious changes. Enhance. By comparing these two books, it can be found that after nearly 30 years of hard work, David Lodge has made the criticism of fiction mature from the early Sentimentalism. The continuous sublimation and self-improvement of the criticism of David Lodge’s novels not only allow us to see the preciousness of the academic spirit of perseverance, but also provide much enlightenment for the construction and development of contemporary Chinese literary theory.
