It is clear from the Paris Air Show that the European military is increasingly emphasizing the need to use sophisticated electro-optical technology to solve the complex problems of night surveillance, accurate throwing of weapons, missile-launched warnings and infrared and optical countermeasures. There is also strong evidence that there has been a demand for various types of electro-optical systems throughout Western Europe. French Air Force requires airborne infrared alarm and direction finding equipment. The West German navy is studying active and passive infrared sensors, including infrared missile launch alert receivers. Germany has also begun to focus its efforts on infrared countermeasures aimed at getting rid of infrared-seeking missiles. Swedish Army requires the use of infrared night vision goggles and equipment department
