近几年来,宜都市努力抓好招商引资工作,湖北宜化、华新水泥、深圳东阳光、海南欣龙、国投原宜等5家上市公司和唐山惠达等共16家国内外知名大集团纷纷落户宜都,累计总投资达30亿元,提供税收占全市税收总额七成以上。2005年,全市GDP达到 60亿元,比上年增长15％;财政收入5．3亿元,增长46％。 2005年4月,宜都市被授予“2003-2004年度全省县域经济发展先进县(市)”称号。
