1,3-Butadiene, a human carcinogen, poses a serious threat to the health of occupational contacts. Its biomarkers are often used to monitor exposure levels, assess damage effects and predict possible mechanisms of action. Finding specific biomarkers of 1,3-butadiene can help to reveal the important biological events in the process of 1,3-butadiene exposure and tumorigenesis, and improve the accuracy of risk assessment. This review reviews recent advances in the three biomarkers of 1,3-butadiene to provide a technical basis for better protection of occupational exposures.
