车辆超限超载运输对交通安全、运输市场及汽车生产秩序造成极大危害。一是诱发了大量道路交通安全事故。据统计,70％的道路安全事故是由于车辆超限超载引发的,50％的群死群伤性重特大道路交通事故与超限超载有直接关系,车辆超限超载运输给人民生命财产造成巨大损失。二是严重损坏公路基础设施。超限超载车辆的荷载远远超过了公路和桥梁的设计承受荷载,致使路面损坏、桥梁断裂,正常使用年限大大缩短,不得不提前大中修。
