Since the end of 1986, Japan’s economy has begun to take a turn for the better, with a GNP growth rate of 3.96% in 1987. The economic prosperity in Japan in 1987 mainly has four reasons. First, increased personal consumption and active investment in real estate. The appreciation of the yen, falling prices for oil and other raw materials, have brought huge national income to Japan, benefiting a lot from the industrial sector that is consuming energy and raw materials. Self-employed workers also benefit greatly from the import trade. The appreciation of the yen, in turn, increased personal wealth and thus stimulated the financial markets. In 1987, the domestic market for large-scale durables was booming. Real estate investment soared, and the total number of buildings under construction exceeded the highest recorded since 1973. Housing investment growth rate of more than 15%.
