一表面精度的重要性机械零件的質量,過去取决於三個項目,即:金相的,物理的,及尺寸的。近年來,表面精度(Surface roughness)漸為製造業所注意,成為第四个而且是最重要的因素。兩個零件雖然在金相組織上和負荷能力上相同,而且經過相同的工作程序,達到相同的規定尺寸,但是因其表面精度的不同,可能在使用效率及耐久性上發生頗大差異。例如軸承的工作溫度及耐久性,便與表面光滑情形發生密切關係;如果不經精密加工,就會因突出的高點(High spot)引起局部高壓,破壞油層,造成金屬相觸,温度升高,磨损加速,終至發生“咬死”
