1.钶钽铁铀矿是一种单独矿物,不是钶铁矿和黑稀金矿或钶钇矿的混合物。其化学组成与钶铁矿类似,为一种偏铌钽酸盐,惟其中有大部分的 U~(4+)置换了钶铁矿中的 Mn~(2+)和 Fe~(2+),可以用{Fe,Mn,(UO)}(Nb,Ta)_2O_6的化学式来表示。2.一般含铀的铌钽酸盐矿物中,都含有相当量的稀土类元素,而含稀土类元素很少的矿物只有三种,钶钽铁铀矿是其中的一种。这三种矿物只有在特殊的情况之下才能生成,即当岩浆残液中 Nb,Ta 及 U 的含量很高而稀土类元素含量相当低的情况下才能生成。所以这三种矿物比较是很少见的。3.钶钽铁铀矿产于白云母型和两云母型的花岗伟晶岩中,与绿生石、金绿宝石、独居石、柘榴石及黑色电气石等矿物共生。其光泽介于钶铁矿和钶钇矿之间,可以溶解于磷酸,溶液呈淡绿色。根据这些性质可以与钶铁矿区别。在黑云母型的伟晶岩中很少可能发现这种矿物。
