In exercise practice, blood lactate is usually used as an indicator of the anaerobic ability to work, in addition to the usual anaerobic process. In our recent study (Fujitsuku et al., 1982), we found that the peak of blood lactate after training for one minute without exercise was highly correlated with the time of 100, 200 and 400 meters sprint. But work by Sawka et al. (1979) found that there was a low correlation between the blood lactate concentrations measured after swimmers 100 and 200 yd training and the time to swim. This suggests that we may still need to find more important indicators if we want to properly assess the anaerobic capacity of trainees. Many authors have studied the effect of muscle activity on plasma enzyme activity. The subjects studied included trained and untrained people. The results of the study showed that plasma enzyme activity levels increased with increasing exercise intensity, and especially those without training
