租界生活主要不是为沈从文直接提供小说创作的素材,而是触发了他回忆、想象、构筑湘西世界的灵感,激起他叙事的欲望,为他重新审视民族文化提供了思维的向度和坐标。寓居租界后,沈从文开始建构希腊小庙供奉人性,开始由乡情民俗的单纯展示转向乡村都市对立的深度模式,开始形成自己明确的文化批判立场。租界的生活世态照亮了沈从文记忆中的湘西世界,促使他确立自身的文化身份,思索民族文化重造的重大问题。
The concession life is not mainly for Shen Congwen to directly provide the novel material, but to trigger his memories, imagination and construction of the inspiration of the world in Xiangxi, arouse his desire for narration, providing the dimension and coordinate of thinking for him to re-examine the national culture. After living in the concession, Shen Congwen began to construct the Greek small temple dedicated to humanity, and began to shift from simple demonstration of nostalgia and folk custom to the depth mode of rural-urban opposition, starting to form his own explicit position of cultural criticism. The living world in the concession illuminated the Western Hunan world in Shen Congwen’s memory, prompting him to establish his own cultural identity and reflect on the major issues of national cultural reconstruction.
