This article discusses the effect of pre-oxidation of the steel substrate on the adhesion and wear resistance of a sputtered TiC film thereon. The results show that there is an interphase-new phase FeTiO_3 between the pre-oxidized matrix and the TiC film, which changes the interfacial state between the TiC and the steel matrix to improve the bond strength, About 30% on the oxidized surface.
