Since the 15th century, portraits began to flourish in the West. It is evident in the way this monarch has borrowed itself from Europe and the “French king François I” created by Giust Van Cliff. Historically François I was a generous sponsor, very much in favor of artists and the arts. In the Renaissance Italy, new ideas springing up and Francois I was equally passionate about the arts. Many Italian artists have been invited to France for their creation, including painter Leonardo da Vinci. The Chateau de Fontainebleau at François I even became the center of artistic creation throughout Europe at the time.
