UG2 mine was developed in South Africa for the enrichment of PGMs. It is well-known that the platinum group metal minerals therein are typical very finely grained minerals that are not easily accessible to good monomer dissociation, especially when using conventional cyclones, the coarse silicate minerals enter the overflow. The fine chromite into the grit, resulting in poor separation. Three-product cyclones can solve these problems by reducing the recycle load of chromite and providing flotation with better dissociation. Use automated mineralogical analysis to compare the difference between a sample from a conventional cyclone circuit and a three-product cyclone circuit. The comparison results show that the application of the three-product hydrocyclone provides a higher quality feed for flotation, with less coarse-grained silicate minerals and less silicate-coated platinum group metals, Body dissociation of platinum group metal minerals and more. This suggests that the improved staging loop provides another avenue for better curve of relationship between theoretical grade and recovery of useful minerals.
