The authors used the Messing (1983) dideoxy method to determine the nucleotide sequence of the aspC gene of the aspartate aminotransferase [EC2.6.1.1. Also known as aspartate aminotransferase] in E. coli K-12. The coding region Contains 1,188 nucleotide residues and encodes 396 amino acid residues. The authors deduced the amino acid sequence of the enzyme in terms of the measured nucleotide sequence and found that the amino acid sequence of the ammonia aspartate aminotransferase protein of Escherichia coli B as recently determined by Kondo et al. (1984)
