Numbers are a special kind of language sign in both Chinese and English, which have the same meaning as the counting numbers. But due to the different religions, history, social customs, nationalities and so on so forth, the meanings of some numbers had been extended and got other meanings. This kind of numbers combined with idioms has formed a special “numerical culture” phenomenon. The foot print of the development of a language is left on idioms with the development of languages is under the leadership of history. This paper tries to discuss on behalf of the back- ground culture difference and characters of numerical idioms, with the aim of narrowing the culture gap between eastern and western countries.
