Gongga Mountain is the highest mountain range of the Hengduan Mountains in southwest China. It borders Dadu River in the east and Yalong River in the west. It is the source of water conservation for these two important tributaries in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River. At the same time, it is also an important production site for economic activities in the counties of Kangding, Luding and Shimian in the western part of Sichuan Province. Therefore, to develop and utilize the soil resources of Gongga Mountain rationally is not only necessary for ecological balance, but also a requirement put forward by local people’s production and living. To achieve the rational use of soil resources, understand the ecological function of soil is one of the basic conditions. In mountainous areas, soil ecological function has significant vertical differentiation, which is the starting point for the study of mountain soil ecosystem and exploitation and utilization of mountainous soil resources. Based on this, we conducted a preliminary study on the soil ecological functions and their vertical differentiation in Gongga Mountain.
